Composition

Composition - 1955 by Serge Poliakoff sets stacked colour shapes across the sheet. The painted areas are edge to edge with no empty space. Each shape meets the next at a soft angle. The surface is built from repeated layers of paint.

This fine art print is set in a frame with a back panel. The matte paper holds the painted layers without a shine. Serge Poliakoff often built his canvases from repeated layers and this print follows the same approach. The frame holds the sheet flat.

It works on a kitchen wall near the sink. From the fridge you see the broad painted shapes, and from the table you notice the small shifts between the colours. The frame stays flat against the wall.
