About this work
Yellow Red Blue 1925 shows a field of coloured shapes and lines set over a plain background. The three colours named in the title appear as broad patches and thin strokes. Wassily Kandinsky arranged the marks so the eye moves across the sheet rather than resting in one place.
This fine art print uses a white frame finish. The white edge gives the picture a clear border on the wall and keeps the coloured shapes from blending into the surrounding paint. You notice the frame edge first, then the marks inside.
In a hallway with one overhead bulb, the broad colour patches read from the end of the passage, while the thin lines show when you stand near the wall. The walking path stays open and the picture stays in sight.
