Torch — Fine Art

A vertical line runs down the center of Torch - 2008, pressed hard so the paint gathers at the bottom. The mark opens wide and then narrows as it lifts, carrying a fast stroke with it. Wu Guanzhong often worked this way, using a single loaded stroke to let the brush show its path.

This is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The frame gives the stroke a clean edge, and the matte surface keeps the dark paint from going glossy under a lamp.

Hang it in a study room where the desk light falls from the side. From the chair you see the thick line hold its shape, and near the desk you catch the small break in the stroke where the brush lifted.
