About this work
The 1024 Colours 1973 print shows a flat field of small colour patches arranged in a grid. Gerhard Richter worked with painted colour samples and photographic colour charts in his abstract period. The picture holds many tones without a single large mark. Each square reads as a separate colour note.
This fine art print sits in a frame with a back panel. The matte paper keeps the colour patches even and stops glare from a lamp. The frame gives the grid a clean edge so the colours do not blur at the sides. A ready to hang option arrives assembled.
On a hallway wall, the grid reads as a calm band of colour between two doors. From the landing you see the separate squares, and closer to the print the tones shift from warm to cool across the rows.
