About this work
A pale ground holds thin lines that cross and meet in small groups. The eye finds a quiet weight near the middle of 1932 Painting - 1932, then drifts to the open edges.
Ben Nicholson built this kind of picture with slow pencil and paint marks that leave space around them. This fine art print sits inside a frame with a back panel, so the surface stays flat and the paper does not curl at the corners.
The matte face lowers the shine, which helps the faint grey lines stay readable on a lit shelf. Hang it in a study above a desk where the daily light falls sideways. From the door you see the thin crossings first, and the empty band at the side.
