About this work
Accession II 1968 shows a layered arrangement of repeating lines and soft shapes against a plain ground. The work relies on careful drawing and a restless sense of balance. Eva Hesse often used rope, paper and pigment to make surfaces that feel hand built and slightly uneven.
The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The frame finish can follow the room, so a light frame sits on a dark wall or a dark frame rests on a pale wall. You see the fine pencil lines and the small changes in tone without any shine from a lamp.
In a study with a window on one side, the long horizontal marks draw the eye along the wall. From the desk you notice the gentle shifts in the drawing before you turn back to your work.
