Ale Cans 1964 1 — Fine Art

Ale Cans 1964 1 shows two metal drink containers standing side by side against a plain ground. The paint sits flat and the edges are hard, which fits the way Jasper Johns works with ordinary objects. The surface reads as a careful study of simple shapes.

This is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The print keeps the flat paint look without shine, so the two cans stay still on the sheet.

It sits on a wooden shelf in a study, where the cans line up with the books on the same shelf. From the desk you see the hard edges and the plain ground, and the small shelf keeps the two cans quiet next to the lamp.
