April 4 — Fine Art

April 4 opens on a broad field of color. A slow sweep runs across the surface, with darker paint building near one side and thinner marks fading toward the other. Empty areas hold the eye between the color bands.

Sam Gilliam often worked with suspended color on soft grounds. The fine art print arrives ready to hang. A metal hanger on the back lets it go straight onto a nail.

The matte surface keeps the color bands soft instead of shiny. It fits a narrow kitchen wall above the counter. From the doorway the dark band reads first, then the lighter fade behind it.
