About this work
A soft band of colour moves across the sheet in August 17Th 1998 by Susan Rothenberg. The painted shape changes tone as it goes. You can see the hand marks in the paint when you stand near the picture.
The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The white frame gives the picture a clear edge on the wall. That edge keeps the colour band from fading into the room. You notice the painted line first, and the wood finish only later.
On a bedroom wall the colour band reads as one quiet shape from the bed. From the doorway the paint marks show as small ridges in the light. The picture stays still when you walk past it.
