About this work
August Weather, 1951- opens on wide washes of thin paint laid across the surface. Helen Frankenthaler lets colour spread and thin out, leaving bare ground between the tints. The marks sit flat, with little build on top of the paper.
This fine art print sits inside a frame in white, wood, dark wood or black. The frame edge gives the picture a clear line on the wall and holds the soft washes in place. The matte surface keeps the greys and tints quiet under room light.
It works above the desk in a study, where you notice the thin edges of paint from the chair. The frame finish picks up the wood of the desk, and the washes read as broad colour bands across the top of the wall.
