About this work
Banjo - 1981 by Gene Davis uses long colour bands that stretch across the sheet from one side to the other. The eye travels along those stripes, with the weight settling toward the center where the tones change. Empty space stays on the outer edges.
You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. A light frame beside pale furniture helps the coloured bands read without a strong contrast. The surface is matte, so the soft mid tones do not reflect the lamp.
In a narrow hallway with one bulb near the ceiling, the bands pull the eye down the length of the wall. From the stairs you notice the regular steps of colour, and the dark frame keeps the picture anchored at the end of the hall.
