Barometer, 1992

Helen Frankenthaler worked with thin layers of paint on raw canvas, letting the colour spread and soak in rather than sit on top. In Barometer 1992 the marks come from that soak and stain method. The picture holds a loose field of colour with edges that fade out where the paint was thin.

The fine art print comes ready to hang. The print sits on a matte paper with no shine. A light frame on a dark wall keeps the soft colour field from washing out.

It hangs on a kitchen wall above the counter. From the table you notice the pale wash and the way the colour spreads across the surface. Near the stove the room feels busy, and the soft marks stay quiet there.
