Big Suckers

Big Suckers - 1971 by Wayne Thiebaud sets out a row of tall red candies with deep bands of paint built up on the sheet. The brush goes over the same area more than once, so the edges hold a soft uneven look.

The fine art print comes ready to hang. The paper stays matte inside a frame with a back panel. That finish keeps the reds from shining under a lamp.

You notice the thick paint layers and the smooth paper in a hallway with a narrow ceiling light. The sweets sit plain and the frame hides the back.
