Blue — Fine Art

Blue - 2006 by Mary Fedden shows a flat blue shape sitting on a pale ground. The blue band sits low and leaves a wide pale field above it. The painted edge is soft at one end and firmer at the other. You see the colour most clearly from the doorway.

This fine art print uses matte paper so the blue stays even and the pale ground does not shine under a lamp. A light frame on a dark wall pulls the blue forward, or a wood frame beside wooden furniture settles the picture into the room.

It suits a hallway where the paint is pale and the light is low. From the far end you read the blue band first, then the soft ground. Up close the painted edge shows the brush going in one direction.
