About this work
Blue-Green Lines on Aqua Background - 1953 shows parallel strokes stacked across a cool field. The lines shift between blue and green while the ground stays a flat aqua tone. Alfred Manessier built his late work around this kind of measured mark making.
The print uses a matte fine art paper so the aqua ground stays even and the blue-green lines do not catch a glare from the ceiling light. A light frame on a dark wall keeps the field clear, and a dark frame on a pale wall gives the lines more weight.
It hangs on the dining room wall above the sideboard. From the table you see the steady lines across the top of the room, and the aqua ground stays quiet under the pendant light.
