About this work
A stage curtain hangs at the edge of a theater box in Bouquet in a theater box. Flowers sit in a vase near the railing, with faces partly turned toward the stage. Pierre-Auguste Renoir paints the scene with loose colour patches and soft edges, in the manner of late nineteenth century impressionist painting.
The image is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The matte surface keeps the flower tones even and the stage glow stays soft. The frame holds the edges straight and the back panel covers the wall side.
In a bedroom over a narrow shelf, the flower colours read first and the faces fade into the side. The curtain edge stays clear from that distance.
