Bridge Study — Fine Art

Bridge Study - 1991 by Brice Marden turns a steel beam into a long line across the page. The line is drawn in pencil and held within a thin border.

Marden worked in graphite and oil, and here the graphite shows as a single dark stroke with small shifts in pressure. The fine art print keeps that stroke dark and even, so the graphite look holds on the paper. A matte sheet stops any shine from a lamp.

The frame can follow the room, a light finish on a dark wall or a wood finish beside wooden furniture. It hangs on a bedroom wall above a dresser. From the foot of the bed you see the long line first, then the small changes in the stroke.
