About this work
Brown and Blue Plank - 1968 by Thomas Downing shows a rectangular field split into two colour zones. The lower part carries a muted brown, and the upper part holds a soft blue. A thin plank shape sits along the dividing line. The composition leaves much of the sheet open between the two blocks.
The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The print arrives ready to hang, with a metal hanger fitted to the back that goes straight onto a nail or screw. No separate frame is needed. The matte finish keeps the brown and blue tones even when a lamp sits nearby.
It suits a study room wall above a small desk. From the desk you notice the brown block at the bottom, and the blue plank above it holds the space without crowding the corner.
