About this work
Calanche of Piana Corsica February 1934 1934 shows the coastal rock formations of Piana as a set of layered bands. The scene runs from the sea toward the cliffs, with the land drawn in clear contour lines. MC Escher treated the coast as a pattern of repeating forms rather than a loose landscape.
This is a fine art print set in a frame, with a back panel. The frame holds the print flat and the back panel keeps everything in place.
It sits well on a study wall near a desk lamp. From the desk you notice the stacked rock shapes across the bottom, and the thin lines that divide land from sea. The back panel keeps the print square behind the glass.
