Cannonball — Fine Art

Cannonball - 1969 uses painted bands that cross the sheet from one side to the other. The stripes step in different widths and the colours shift as they move. Gene Davis built this kind of colour band painting by laying down repeated vertical colour across the surface.

The fine art print keeps those colour shifts soft because the paper has a matte finish. On a dark wall, a light frame lets the stripes stand out without a shine under the lamp. You see the painted bands clearly from the hall.

In a kitchen, the coloured bands read as a steady rhythm while you wait at the counter. The stripes step and change from the doorway, and the frame sits plainly on the tiled wall.
