About this work
Wide vertical bands of gold and diffuse green run across the sheet in the right part of the Tree of Life cartoon for the Villa Stoclet in Brussels, 1909. The gold forms a tall trunk and the leaves spread in a flat decorative pattern.
The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. Gustav Klimt built these shapes with repeated lines and soft colour blocks in his decorative painting practice. A white frame gives the picture a clear edge on the wall, and the pale frame edge rests calmly against the gold bands without pulling the eye.
You can place this on a bedroom wall near a lamp. From the doorway the gold band reads as one steady shape, and the simple frame keeps the edge clean.
