Composition jaune, mauve, bleu et noir La table dor - 1952 sets four colour bands across the sheet. The eye enters on the yellow shape, then moves through mauve and blue before the black band settles near the edge. Serge Poliakoff used layered colour fields in this post war abstract painting.
