About this work
Conversion - 2003 by Robert Ryman shows a painted surface where the artist tests how paint sits on a support. The work uses his known method of repeated layers and careful attention to the edge of the sheet. White and grey tones mix on the surface, and the marks stay close to the support itself.
This is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The matte paper holds the soft greys without shine, and the frame gives the sheet a clean edge to read against a wall.
On a kitchen wall near the sink, the pale tones pick up the room light. The narrow band of paint runs across the sheet and the frame keeps the edge clear from the counter below.
