About this work
Crack Down 1986 shows a short figure with a long line crossing the picture. The drawing uses bold black outlines against a plain background. Keith Haring drew figures with quick marks and flat colour.
The work reads as a single bold gesture. From across the room the outline holds its shape. You see the small changes in the line when you stand near the frame.
A fine art print set in a frame with a back panel keeps the drawing plain. The matte paper holds the black marks without shine under a lamp. It works on a narrow wall in a hallway where the light comes from one side. You notice the crossing line first, then the fill inside the figure.
