About this work
Cupid S Span Collaboration with van Bruggen 2002 by Claes Oldenburg shows a large arrow shape drawn from everyday objects. The arrow points across the picture and the lines stay bold and simple. Claes Oldenburg took ordinary items and made them into big soft forms. The subject comes from the pop art movement and uses a playful scale.
A fine art print set in a frame with a back panel holds the image. The frame gives the arrow a clear edge so the shape reads from a distance. You see the flat colour first, then the line work when you stand nearer.
On a kitchen wall the arrow points toward the table. The bright forms catch the morning light and the frame stays out of the way.
