About this work
Decalcomania 1966 by Rene Magritte turns a familiar word into a painted scene. The picture shows a plain ground with a small painted object set off to one side. Soft greys and muted tones hold the space together.
The fine art print uses a matte paper that leaves the soft colours without shine. A light frame sits on a dark wall, or a dark frame on a pale wall, so the frame follows the room. A wood frame beside wooden furniture keeps the look quiet.
It fits a study room wall with a desk pushed against the far side. From the desk you see the small painted object first, then the plain ground behind it. The matte surface stays soft under a desk lamp. Nothing in the room competes with the painted space.
