Diagonale - 1954 by Ernst Wilhelm Nay shows a diagonal line moving over a painted ground. The line is built from repeated strokes. Each stroke changes the mark a little. The colours stay close and the line feels steady.

In a fine art print the paper holds the line clearly and the matte finish keeps the grey tones soft. The frame finish can follow the room with a dark frame on a pale wall or a light frame on a darker wall.

On a kitchen wall near a sink you see the line first from the doorway. A little closer you notice the small changes in the stroke along the diagonal.
