About this work
A doorway opens into a garden in Door into the garden - 1947. Broad painted shapes fill the view, with green ground and softer marks placed across it. The colour stays calm because the paint sits flat on the surface. Grace Cossington Smith worked with handled brush marks and layered colour in her Australian modernism practice.
This fine art print sits in a frame with a back panel. The matte paper keeps the green ground soft and there is no shine under a lamp. When the ready to hang option is used, the print arrives assembled and ready to place on a wall.
On a kitchen wall near the sink, you see the painted doorway shape at a distance. The green tones blend with pots on the counter. From the dining table, the garden shapes sit quietly behind the room.
