About this work
The Double Aegean Sun-Box - 1968 shows bands of warm tone laid across the sheet. The brush moves with a steady hand and leaves a clear edge where one colour ends and another begins. Theodoros Stamos built this painting on the idea of the sun as a simple light source.
You get the piece on fine art paper with a metal hanger fixed to the back. It goes up on a nail or screw without any extra frame. The matte surface keeps the pale yellows from shining under a lamp.
In a kitchen, the print sits well above a sink where the light changes through the day. You notice the thick paint edges first, then the quiet yellow field behind them.
