About this work
Dressing Wells - 1961 shows a row of wells or dressing areas with strong vertical shapes and plain colour fields.
The picture uses thick paint laid in broad strokes, a method Wayne Thiebaud used for figures and still life. The fine art print keeps those broad strokes clear on a matte sheet, so the paint edges stay visible under a normal lamp.
A light frame on a dark hallway wall keeps the shapes steady at shoulder height. From the stair landing you see the dark bands before the thinner lines.
