About this work
Elan - 1989 shows a loose arrangement of painted lines and soft colour patches spread across the sheet. The marks seem to move without a fixed shape, turning the surface into a field of shifting forms. Carmelo Arden Quin often worked in this way, letting the paint and line stay open. The work belongs to abstract painting from the mid twentieth century.
The image is on a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The matte surface lets the paint areas stay soft and keeps the edges of the lines from looking sharp.
It fits above a desk in a study where the eye catches the colour patches first, then the drawn lines as you pass by.
