About this work
Etching No. 2 - 1952 shows dark ink lines crossing a pale sheet in rows that stay close together.
You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. The lines run without a pattern across the surface, leaving small gaps where the needle moved faster. Pierre Soulages worked with black tones and plain ground for years, so this sheet fits that long habit of mark and space. The paper is matte, so the black tones stay soft and do not shine under a lamp.
A metal hanger is fitted to the back, so the sheet goes straight onto a nail or screw. You can put it on a hallway wall where you pass often. From there the parallel lines pull your eye along the wall and the gaps between them stay clear.
