About this work
In Eyes on the Table 1938 the painted eye sits on the paper ground, with the dark iris set against a softer rim. Remedios Varo keeps the marks thin and the edges clear. The eye is the only strong shape on the page.
The fine art print uses a matte surface so the painted tones stay even and there is no shine when you move past it. A light frame on a dark wall lets the eye stand out, and a dark frame on a pale wall holds the quiet ground.
On a hallway wall beside a coat hook the eye catches the light first, before you notice the room around it. The painted circle stays with you as you walk on.
