About this work
Four Planes Escarpe 1967 by Alexander Calder shows four flat planes set in a row. Each plane tilts a little from the next, so the angles feel worked out rather than repeated. The image follows the way Alexander Calder built forms from simple moving parts.
This fine art print comes set in a frame with a back panel, so it arrives ready to hang when you choose that option. The matte paper holds the edges of the planes without a shine, which suits the flat colour areas in the image.
Over a reading desk in a study, the four planes line up across the top of the wall and the desk items sit below them. From the doorway you notice the gap between the planes first, and when you pass the desk you see where each plane stops and starts.
