About this work
A loose central form sits in open space in Fried Egg on the Plate Without the Plate 1932. The drawing uses pale tones against a plain ground, with a soft edge where one shape meets another. Salvador Dali often built such scenes by letting forms float free of a solid base.
This is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The matte paper keeps the pale tones from turning bright under a lamp, so the edges stay quiet.
On a dark kitchen wall, the pale central form reads from the doorway. You notice the thin drawn line around it before the rest of the room fills in.
