About this work
Going Up - 1978 by Betty Parsons holds a pale band against a quiet ground. The lighter tone sits low and the darker tone rises above it. That upward pull is the point of the picture. Betty Parsons worked in hard edge painting and kept her bands plain and clear.
This fine art print is ready to hang on arrival. The frame comes in white, wood, dark wood and black. A black finish puts a sharp line around the pale field and keeps the rising band from fading at the edge. A white finish does the opposite and lets the ground breathe.
It sits on the landing wall near the stairs. From the bottom step you read the pale band first. Closer up the flat colour shows its even surface.
