About this work
Harbor Mole 1913 shows a long pier reaching out over water, with angular buildings stacked along the edge. The scene uses broken lines and mixed tones, a way of painting that belongs to the cubist movement of the early twentieth century. You can see the boats and the harbour wall drawn in flat colour blocks.
This fine art print uses a matte sheet so the pale water stays flat and the darker piers do not glare under a lamp. The frame finish can follow the room, a light frame on a dark wall or a wood frame beside wooden furniture.
A long corridor wall holds the picture at a steady height, and from the far end you read the pier line first. The small windows along the shore come into view as you step closer.
