About this work
Wide painted bands sit across the sheet in Here We are in Croydon - 1979 with soft edges where one colour meets the next. The marks press down hard in places and fade in others, so the surface reads as a series of quick gestures rather than a flat field.
You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. Howard Hodgkin built his paintings by layering colour over colour and leaving some edges blurred.
The paper holds the shifts between warm and cool areas without flattening them. A light frame on a dark wall lets the middle bands stand out, and the print hangs a little above the door handle in the hallway so the broad colour blocks come into view as you pass through.
