Homestead - 1979 by Clarence Holbrook Carter places the eye on a set of plain houses near open ground. The shapes are broad and simple, with cool grey and warm cream tones spread across the sheet. Empty space sits beside the buildings and gives the scene room to breathe.

This fine art print keeps those soft tones on a matte paper, so the grey does not shine under a lamp. A light frame on a dark wall lets the pale buildings sit forward, and a dark frame on a pale wall does the same for the small marks at the edges.

It hangs on the wall beside a kitchen table where morning light comes in low. From that spot, the wide ground and the flat roofs read first, and the small lines in the houses show when you lean in.
