Horse — Fine Art

Horse by Sam Gilliam shows broad colour washes laid over the surface. The paint runs in loose bands that do not line up neatly. A few strokes sit heavier on one side than the other. The work belongs to the colour field painting practice and carries the draped canvas approach in a flat print.

The fine art frame comes in white, wood, dark wood or black. A black frame makes the painted bands stay separate from the wall. The clear frame edge keeps the colour field painting practice from spilling off the sheet.

Hang it in a hallway with pale daylight from the far window. The colour washes read as soft blocks from the door. Near the shelf the small uneven strokes show up without shine.
