About this work
Hummingbird (1978)
A hummingbird hovers in midair, its wings a blur of motion. In Gene Davis' Hummingbird, the delicate creature is framed by a field of color that seems to vibrate with energy. The bird's iridescent feathers are rendered in shades of emerald and sapphire, a stark contrast to the warm amber background.
The artwork is a study in contrast, with the hummingbird's delicate form set against a backdrop of bold, horizontal stripes. The stripes, in hues of gold, ochre, and rust, create a sense of movement and rhythm. The bird, positioned centrally, draws the eye, its presence both subtle and commanding.
This poster brings a sense of life and movement to a quiet corner, a study, or a hallway where its colors can interact with natural light.
