About this work
In the Shade of the Pines Study 1905 shows pine needles and dappled shadow painted in short colour strokes. The work belongs to the neo impressionist period. Theo van Rysselberghe set small touches of green and yellow next to one another to build the shade. The print keeps those soft tones flat and even.
A matte fine art sheet holds the paint marks without a shine. You can see the green strokes clearly in even indoor light. A light frame on a pale wall keeps the picture calm and readable.
It hangs on the stairwell wall above the first step. From the landing you read the dark green patches and the pale gaps between them. The frame follows the wood of the banister.
