About this work
Indian Summer - 1967 shows pools of thin colour spread across the sheet by Helen Frankenthaler. The paint soaks into the ground and leaves soft edges where one hue meets another. Wide planes of warm tone sit near a cooler passage, with room left open between them.
A fine art print set in a frame with a back panel keeps those colour fields flat and even. The matte face does not add shine, so the warm and cool passages read the way they do in the work.
It fits a hallway wall where the light stays even through the day. From the bend in the corridor you see the broad colour shapes, and at the turn you notice the soft edges between them.
