About this work
Infinity Field, Jerusalem Series IV - 1984 shows broad horizontal bands of tone moving across the sheet. The shapes stay open and the marks rest on a pale ground. The picture belongs to the abstract expressionist practice of Theodoros Stamos.
The fine art print sits on your wall at eye level and the light frame keeps the pale ground soft. A dark frame on a pale wall makes the bands stand out. The paper finish stays matte so the greys do not shine under a lamp.
In a hallway with a worn wooden floor the shapes hold their place from the far end of the passage. From the stair landing you notice the change in tone between the bands, then the slow shift in the paper.
