About this work
Jacobs Ladder, 1957- opens on a vertical band of thin paint that runs from the top edge down through the center. The eye follows that lift before it settles into the open ground beside it. Helen Frankenthaler works with stained colour that soaks into the surface here.
This fine art print arrives ready to hang, with a metal hanger fitted to the back that goes straight onto a nail or screw. The matte finish keeps the lighter passages from catching a glare under a lamp.
It sits on the landing wall above the bottom stair, where the narrow strip of paint stands out against the worn wood. From the kitchen door you see the thin line first, then the open space beside it.
