Janela — Fine Art

Janela - 1969 by Maria Helena Vieira da Silva sets thin painted lines against a muted ground. The lines step back and forward, leaving pale gaps between them. Cool grey and soft ochre sit next to each other so the surface feels layered rather than flat.

This fine art print uses the light frame on a dark wall, so the pale gaps stay open and the colours do not get lost. The matte finish keeps the grey tones soft under a ceiling lamp.

On the landing wall between two doors, you see the stacked lines first, then each pencil thin mark as you pass by.
