Joined - 2011 shows a horizontal field with a few slow bands of tone laid across it. The surface stays even, with small variations where the hand pressed harder.

This kind of measured band painting is part of the post war abstraction practice Brice Marden kept through decades of work. You get a fine art print that arrives ready to hang, with a metal hanger on the back that fits on a nail or screw.

The matte surface keeps the tone shifts from catching light, so the band edges read plainly. It reads well on the inside wall beside the front door, where the entry light falls across the painted bands and the quiet tones hold still.
