About this work
Kateau - 1953 places a black grid of small squares over a soft green field. The green stays behind the black lines. A white square curve cuts through the centre. The pattern shifts as the eye moves. Victor Vasarely worked in the op art movement and used colour to build movement on the page.
The frame comes in four finishes: white, wood, dark wood and black. A black frame edge sits hard against the green field. The matte paper holds the black lines without shine under a lamp. This is a fine art print made to keep the grid sharp.
It hangs on a bedroom wall above a low bed. From the bedside you see the white curve first. The black grid reads as a flat field across the wall. The green stays calm behind it.
