Landscape Corsica 1898 — Fine Art

Landscape Corsica 1898 shows a coastal view with patches of green, blue and pale sand. The picture reads as broad areas from far away and as small strokes when you stand close. Henri Matisse used this flat colour approach in many pictures of his early work.

The paper is matte, so the blue and sand tones stay soft without shine under a lamp. A light frame on a dark wall lets those colour areas sit plainly. A dark frame on a pale wall gives the same quiet contrast for this scene.
