About this work
Lavender and Mulberry - 1959 uses two soft colour bands stacked one over the other. The top band is a dusty purple, the lower one a deep berry tone. The edges blur into each other, so the change feels slow.
From far away you read the picture as two quiet fields. Up close the paint shows a steady, even layer with no sharp lines. Mark Rothko worked in this colour field style, building large shapes from layered paint.
The fine art print sits in a frame with a back panel. The matte surface keeps the purple and berry tones flat, so the colours do not reflect lamp light. You would see it best on a hallway wall, where the two colour bands read as one calm shape at the end of the passage.
